Position Summary:
The endoscopy technician (ET) under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, supports nurses, physicians, and other personnel in the direct and indirect care of patients and their families in the endoscopy unit.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma required.
- Completion of the SGNA GI Tech Specialist Educational Program and/or graduation from an approved course for Surgical Technicians required.
Experience
- A minimum of one (1) year experience in Endoscopy required.
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within ninety (90) days of employment..
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Greet all patients and their accompanying family members when applicable and provide exemplary customer service.
- Responsible for preparing, providing, and caring for instruments, scopes, and other equipment.
- Obtain specimens and maintain a sterile field where applicable.
- Assist the physician and nurses during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Assist the manager with inventory of supplies, maintenance of infection control logs and other data as well as assisting with scheduling and preparation of daily endoscopy schedules.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
- Work effectively and collaboratively with co-workers, nursing colleagues, physicians, and department heads.
- Effectively utilize strong organizational/time management skills.
- Consistently display effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient understanding and use of technology/PC skills required.
- Exercise independent judgement and remain calm and professional in emergency situations.
